Post-Adoption ServicesWelcome to Parents Place, Sonoma CountyWe offer a variety of services for families in Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino, and Napa counties formed by adoption. This program, funded by a grant from the California Department of Social Services, is free to all families formed by adoption. Our services are provided at Parents Place, 1360 N. Dutton Ave, Suite C, Santa Rosa, unless otherwise noted. Please call Post-Adoption Services Coordinator Liz Jimenez, MSW, to receive more information or to register for groups. Crisis Intervention, Counseling, and ConsultationWhether your family is experiencing a crisis, or you just want support to improve communication or attachment, we have experienced therapists and parent educators here to help. GroupsSanta Rosa Parent Support Group. Meets on the third Wednesday of each month, 5:45 – 7:45 pm. This monthly support group, open to all adoptive parents, offers child care free of charge. Facilitated by Liz Jimenez, MSW. RSVP required to Anita Whitehead 707-571-2048. Petaluma Parent Support Group. Meets on the first Tuesday of each month, 5:45 – 7:45 pm. This monthly support group is open to all adoptive parents. Facilitated by Mary Hirsch, MFT. Meets at B'nai Israel Jewish Center, 740 Western Ave. Petaluma. RSVP required to Anita Whitehead at 707-571-2048. Socialization Group for Young Children (6 – 9 years). Meets Tuesdays, beginning January 22, 2013, 3:30 – 5:00 pm. Help children in the early school years develop healthy social skills and practice "talking about" adoption. This small group will provide adopted children with a natural peer group of other adopted children and encourage them to establish positive peer relations and strengthen self-esteem. Facilitated by Amy McIntyre, MA. Teen Socialization Group: First Friday of each month, 6:00-8:00 pm. Socialization activities for adopted teens. Facilitated by Liz Jimenez, MSW, and Andrea Pinkerton, PsyD. Creating LifebooksA lifebook is a collection of words, photos, graphics, artwork, and memorabilia that creates a life record for an adopted child. We offer ongoing lifebook classes for parents and children. Lifebooks: This ten session class for parents will guide you through the creation of this special book for your child. Two Tuesday evenings per month, beginning February 26, 2013, 5:30 – 7:30pm. Required introductory meeting on January 29, 2013. Facilitated by Barbara Joy, BA.
