  • Turning No Into Yes - Encouraging Cooperative Behavior in Young Children (birth - 3 years) (September) - Young children are expected to test, but hearing “no” can be frustrating and exhausting. Learn creative strategies for redirection and limit setting that maintain a positive relationship.
  • NEW CLASS! An Organized Family Is Not An Oxymoron (all ages) (September) - Managing a family in today’s fast-paced world can be overwhelming. Clutter seems to multiply in a matter of minutes. Your kid’s schedules seem to be busier than your own. Significant amounts of time and energy are spent looking for things. Learn strategies to keep your home clutter free, how to set-up organizational systems that allow you to find things when you need them, and tips to manage your time better so your “to-do’s” actually get done.
  • Mothers and Sons (all ages) (October) - Explore this special relationship: what boys need from their moms: handling boy energy: fostering good communication and closeness.
  • Juggling Two - The New Baby and The Older Sibling (2nd Trimester to 3 month newborns) (October) - You've finally gotten used to being a parent, you're an expert diaper changer, your child may be sleeping through the night, you've established nice routines, you've even managed to carve out a few hours a week for yourself! But now, a new baby is coming and, as you've already realized, there just isn't as much time to rest and prepare as with your first pregnancy. How will your family adjust to the new baby? How can you best prepare your child? In this workshop, we will discuss tips and strategies for preparing the family, thinking about the birth plan, behaviors to expect in the first few months, and how to support a healthy sibling relationship.

  • FREE CLASS! Ask the Nanny Expert (all ages) (October) - Bring your challenges, questions, and concerns regarding caregivers. Receive advice on issues such as: effective communication, establishing a team approach, terminating a nanny relationship, financial issues, and any other areas of concern.
  • Kids Turn(4 - 17 years) - A parent/child workshop for families experiencing parental separation or divorce. The focus of this workshop is on the children and supporting them while the family reorganizes.
  • Get Ready to Read! Teaching Skills Through Play and Stories (2 - 5 years) (November) - Learn how to weave activities into your story and play time that will help your child gain valuable pre-reading skills. Discover how easy it is to incorperate age-appropriate learning activities into daily interactions with your child.
  • Choosing a Preschool Workshop and Book Signing (November) - Join Jenifer Wana, author of the new book "How to Choose the Best Preschool for Your Child: The Ultimate Guide to Finding, Getting Into, and Preparing for Nursery School," (avail. 8/1/10) as she discusses criteria to consider when choosing a program, what to look for during school tours, popular preschool philosophies, and tips for gaining admission into selective schools.   • Parenting as a Team: For Couples (birth-6 years) (November) - Explore ways to strengthen the couple relationship, manage conflict, and develop discipline strategies that are effective for the whole family.
  • TWIN Drop-in Play, every 4th Tuesday of the Month (New Time) (September) - Please note that this is a NEW time different from the Fall Calendar. We had to change the schedule due to the numerous Holidays that fall on the 4th Thursday of the month. The Twin Drop-in Play will coincide with the regular Drop-in Play Tuesday Schedule.
  • Drop-In Play - Wednesdays - Join us in our fun, stimulating playroom for an hour and a half of play with your child. Ideal for children under 5 years old. Instructor: Parents Place Staff

  • Setting Limits - Raising Responsible Children Through Choices and Consequences (2nd - 8th grade) (October) - Understand your school-age child's needs and behaviors, work on setting family rules, applying appropriate consequences, and following through with your discipline plan.

  • FREE CLASS! Developmental Red Flags - What to look for and What to do (4 - 16 years) (November) - Dr. Rosenbaum will share concrete, helpful information about learning and behavior in children between the ages of 4 and 16. She will share what to do if teachers express concerns about your child's social developement or rate of academic progress. Specific red flags will be identified as will steps to address areas of need. Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity will be defined and the diagnostic process will be explained. There will also be opportunities to ask questions throughout the presentation.

Lectures and Special Events

Please choose your workshop carefully, since Parents Place is unable to issue refunds if you cancel your participation in a workshop. If you are unable to attend a workshop and you provide at least one week's advance notice to us, we will apply your payment to another workshop. If you cancel less than a week before a class, you will forfeit your payment. If JFCS Parents Place cancels a group or workshop, you are entitled to a full refund or credit for a future workshop.
