Parents Place offers a wide range of occupational therapy services including assessment, treatment, and consultation. We are proud to be able to offer these services in a state-of-the-art occupational therapy playroom. We partner with you and create individual treatment plans to help your child develop the skills needed to participate in activities at school, home, and play, as well as to grow into independently functioning adults.

Parents Place encourages and supports parent education and training in addition to parent/child co-treatment.

Serving children newborn though adolescence, our licensed occupational therapists provide treatment to a large range of developmental needs including: developmental delays, sensory processing disorder, ADHD/ADD, and movement, coordination, and cognitive functioning issues. Sensory processing challenges may include:

  • Intense tantrums
  • Sensitivity to clothes, sounds, and changes in environment
  • Excessive physicality (such as pushing, biting and being overly active)
  • Constantly seeking stimulation (such as jumping and spinning)
  • Difficulty self-soothing/calming down

Services Offered

  • Initial sensory assessments as well as collaborative assessments that include evaluation from both occupational therapists and child therapists
  • Intervention planning and implementing in a variety of settings, including: home, school, and other community settings
  • Collaboration with mental health, speech and language, and developmental specialists to formulate and implement coordinated treatment plans
  • Consultation with preschools and elementary schools
  • Training for teachers on sensory processing, behavioral, and other relevant challenges
  • Social skills groups for children and their families
  • Expertise in autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, sensory integration, and learning disabilities, with emphasis on early intervention, utilizing evidence-based treatment

Sensory Processing Support Group

This group is for parents of children with sensory processing challenges. Connect with other parents who are dealing with similar situations, share experiences, swap ideas, and receive support from our highly experienced Occupational Therapists.

  • First Thursday of every month, 7:00 – 8:30 pm in San Mateo. Facilitated by Deanne Kelly, OTR. $20 fee per meeting. Please contact us at 650-931-1854 or deannek@jfcs.org for more information.
